Sith Holocron: Hutta Concept
Written by Darth Kraze    Saturday, 21 February 2009 19:40

Welcome to the Sith Holocron! This week, we will be talking about our most recent update received from Bioware. Left over concept art! Mmm you can almost taste the cold slices of Pizza the Hutt from last week. This week’s update was small, (and I do mean small) but we got some relatively big news from it and it will be the topic of discussion this week.

To make things clear, "officially," Bioware has not given any word for, or against, player housing. With that out of the way… Party at my place!!! (Sith only (unless you’re a hot Jedi that has a thing for the dark side.).) This update was about as concrete with details that we WILL have player housing as Bioware is gonna give us, without actually saying, "You will have player housing."

So, let’s start from the top -- our first look at a complete, "Hutta" style home. Complete with an air filtration system, to keep you safe from all those toxic gases, some sort of bug zapping antenna array (for all of those pesky bugs causing static when you try to send a holo-recording to your loved ones across the galaxy), and a nice little bench and canopy to sling all of your day's wares from. (Which is also our second sign of some sort of player merchant system, if you recall in the last Holocron with the shanties outside of the palace) I’m not that into structural designs or concepts, but I can’t make out what that piece on the far right of the building is for. It looks, at most, like a window with it’s blinds closed Tongue out. What do you think it is? Tell us on our forums!

Moving down to the second image, we get an un-skinned opposite view of the house in the previous shot. Not much more to see but a couple of windows, though small, much appreciated. I always found it odd to have all sorts player housing in so many different games, but nobody really thought, or could figure out a way to give us a functioning window!

EverQuest flashback, skip this paragraph if you didn’t play it lol. Does anyone remember all those empty houses throughout all the cities and scattered through Norath? I think ever since then it secretly engrained my and all of our fixations on owning our own homes in the MMO’s we play, no matter how little time we actually spend in them Laughing (unless you’re an RP’r of course).

Resuming our regularly scheduled program... With the third shot of the house, we get to see some interior. From what I can tell, this will serve as the general living area. It could act as some meditation chambers or just a place to put some furniture. With the wall panels being so similar to each other, I would really doubt they have any function. With the character size reference, even for a small house, it looks like it could hold quite a few people or maybe just a few large pazaak tables.

With the image to the right of the previous, we get another un-skinned room of what my guess is to be a storage room. That circle on the floor may look like something or something may belong there. But it is just a point of reference to show you that the house will have a little circular outdent with a wall around it.

Our final picture of the house is the entrance, the floor fixed with some super high tech futuristic welcoming mats, but not much else. I guess we shouldn’t expect much on any planet controlled by the Hutt’s. But don’t let me discourage you! If this looks like your dream home feel free to stop by, we’ll be showing the house all week!

That really about does it for this weeks Holocron, if you would like to talk about player housing or anything else SW:TOR related, please feel free to join our forums and give us a shout!

I’d also like to point out we had some major changes over at http://kotormmo.net , we changed hosts, and also created a new site layout. Not everything is 100% functional but all the goodies like our forums and news articles are working. Expect it all to be working shortly!

PS:

I had a run in with a bounty hunter earlier this week. I dealt with him without too much trouble but it still feels like someone is following me. Maybe it’s just my imagination.
